A woman would have jumped to her death if it hadn't been for James Rozenski convincing her to move off a bridge's edge.
On September 17, 2014, Sergeant Jeff Duer, on his way to an off-duty employment job, noticed Mr. Rozenski leaning against a bridge wall talking with a woman sitting on top of that bridge wall.
Suspecting something was wrong, he immediately contacted a Center Zone Dispatcher for a patrol car to respond to where they were.
As Sgt. Duer made voice contact with the two, he realized that the woman was ready to jump off the wall onto the railroad frontage, 60 feet below. Mr. Rozenski spoke to the woman in a very calm and soft tone and asked her to move her legs back onto the roadway side of the bridge.
The woman was very distraught over having a bad day and family problems in her life that seemed unbearable. She said she was indeed ready to jump.
Mr. Rozenski's actions conviced the woman to not jump and back off the ledge.
For his outstanding assistance to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, Chief Darryl Forté, along with the Board of Police Commissioners, is pleased to present the Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. James Rozenski.
